Who is Lucy-Mae?

Some of you may have had your suspicions, but it's time to come clean and tell you my real name!

I actually wrote this post back in July (after several large glasses of wine, so apologies about sounding like a total weirdo, but I am one, but let's leave that confession for another day haha). It's been sitting here un-posted ever since, and it's about time you all got to read it!  (the only thing I've changed is the addition of a few photos).

Hello Readers!

I have a confession to make... My name isn't Lucy-Mae. Not even close! If you're a follower of my sisters blog, you may have already picked up on this, as she has used my real (!) name a few times when posting pictures of me or linking to this blog.

So I thought it was time I came clean and told you a little about Miss Lucy-Mae, and a little about myself too!

Lucy-Mae is my vintage wearing, perfectly 1950's housewife-esque alter-ego. Miss Lucy sews herself new clothes regularly, has a sparkling clean home all the time, loves to cook, always has fresh baking ready for when unexpected guests drop by, and of course is always a lady (although she is still just as slack as the real me when it comes to blogging).

On a day to day basis however, I am Saba, a business student (ok so I've actually just finished studying, but until I get my results, graduate or get a job, I will continue to call myself a student!), who wears jeans on a fairly regular basis. I do love to bake, however I don't bake as much as I'd like too, mostly because baking regularly can get pretty expensive, and also my man and I would both gain quite a lot of weight if we ate that much baking hehe!  I love making myself new clothes, but I dislike actual sewing, so I have a LOT of half finished garments. And a closet full of fabric waiting to be sewn up. And two sewing machiens which take up considerable space. I actually studied sewing/pattern making, and worked in the fashion industry for a few years, but none of my jobs involved physically sewing or making patterns, and as a result my skills are now pretty rusty in both areas!

Here;s a picture of me in my usual jeans, waiting for the train (no not really, just doing some yoga.. The trains don't run on Sundays.. Ok ok, really I'm just posing for the camera as usual!) *I found this hillarious when I wrote it, looking back it's a bit lame haha!*

As for being a lady... Well, I do try. But I have a fairly filthy sense of humour. And a wee bit of a potty mouth. But I like to believe that people who don't know me very well think of me as lady like. Those that do know otherwise!

So there you have it! If there's anything else you'd like to know about Saba (or Lucy heh) feel free to ask away.

xx
Lucy

P.s. I hope I don't sound too crazy talking about Lucy-Mae in 3rd person. I may have had a few glasses of wine before writing this post!

*Since I wrote this post I actually wear pretty dresses much more often! It just required that little bit of extra effort in winter.. My next post I will post pictures of me being my usual special self.. A side you don't really get to see so much on this blog!  Also I had my graduation last week eep! I am excited about a few things I am doing work-wise, and will share them with you next week some time! Oh and also you can of course feel free to refer to me as either Lucy-Mae or Saba, I don't mind.*

Kitten love!

Dear Neighbour,
Can I have your kitten? Pleeeeeease?!

This cute as a button grey and white kitten sneaks under the fence to come visit me (and the sunny patch under the washing line!) every now and then.

It's a smoochy kitty..

But also loves to explore..
(Excuse my messy kitchen! The old towel is usually wedged under to door to stop the wind coming in.. And I cropped out all the dishes on the bench haha)

I wish I could keep this cutie, but after a while of hanging out, the kitten decides it's time to go home, so out the door it goes..

And back under the fence towards home!

Do you have any pets? I really want a cat or a dog, but sadly we're renting and not allowed to have any pets here.

xx
Lucy

P.s. Just so you know I don't feed the kitty/actually try to steal it! (I just really want to hehe)

Cake baked in jam jars?!

Hello!
Scarletta Bakes just posted this delicious sounding chocolate chilli cake recipe, which she baked in glass jars. You have no idea how much this idea excites me, it's so perfect! All you need to do is put the lid on, and you instantly have cake that will travel easily. I imagine taking these cakes on picnics, road trips and to work/school for afternoon tea!  I imagine this would work well with any cake/cupcake recipe, as long as the baking time is changed (Scarletta advises that the cake will continue to cook in the jar after it's come out of the oven, so it needs to be taken out a little earlier).

The below image is from Scarletta's website, do go and check out this recipe and read about baking in jars!

Do you think this idea is as great as I do?  I want to go and buy some jars right now and take these cake jars on a roadtrip (sadly my bank account won't allow me to buy or do much of anything right now ugh).

Hello nature!

Last week we had a few super sunny days, the kind where you can almost pretend it really is summer already, so some friends and I decided to take advantage of this and go on a bush walk (two days later my butt and legs still hurt haha). Only one of my good friends is particularly fit (one of those fitness crazy people who decide to make a job out of working out), so we decided to pick an easy track and do a 3 hour return trip. It turns out even the easy tracks have a gazillion steps, hence the sore muscles...

That super muddy part is actually the walking track which we had to walk around!

Ooer big tree!

Behind me is the Okura River

A perfect shaped resting palm

Argh look at those stairs!

Our turning back point was the Dacre Cottage which is a tiny cottage originally built around 1850 (although it was re-built in the early 1980's). We couldn't actually go inside the cottage, as due to vandalism it is now completely locked up. It's right by the beach and surrounded by farm land and bush, it would be amazing to live here (well, maybe in a slightly larger house haha).

More steps (can you spot my friend who likes fitness? hehe)

Made it out in one piece! Without falling in the mud!
My dress is a 1970's one I've had for ages but have never worn before, the colour kind of puts me off. And please excuse my very unsightly sneakers! They're very old ones from when I played netball in high school, and I'm so glad I decided to wear them since the track turned out to be so muddy and slippery.

Do you have any nice walkways near where you live?  There are quite a lot around the Auckland region, I really think I should check some of the others out too!

Vintage Textile Fair purchases

As promised, here's what I bought this year at the Vintage Textile Fair!

This beautiful rayon vintage dress!  Below is a closer picture so you can see the print (it's pink and blue, two colours I can't seem to get enough of lately).

 These amazing 1940's heels

And a pair of green gloves (as you know, I love green, so I couldn't not buy these!).

The coat in the background was purchased at last years Vintage Textile Fair, and is one I wear very often in winter. You can see it better in this post and this one as well.

I'm so excited about my (slowly) growing collection of vintage!

Have you bought anything fabulous lately?

Celebrating my sisters birthday

Hello!

Firstly I just want to tell you (as if you haven't figured out already) how AMAZING my older sister Malayka is. She's my sister and one of my best friends. We have always had similar interests and tastes (even when she was living overseas), and a similar temperament too (haha). She has great style and taste, has her own online shop, and is in the process of expanding this into a retail store! I happen to think she is the bees knees, and I'm sure you would too!

I know a lot of my followers are also followers of my sisters blog, so you already know what we got up to for her birthday over the weekend, but I have a gazillion photos and wanted to share some with you!

Firstly on Saturday we went to a fashion exhibition called Fashion at War, which was in the Devonport Navy Museum. It was small but very informative, I recommend you check it out if you're in the area (it runs until Sept 11th). Afterwards, we went up North Head, which is a volcanic headland in Devonport, riddled with old military tunnels. I've actually never been there before, so it was fun to explore! (This is a very picture heavy post by the way)

I got a new haircut.. The big hair was achieved simply by running my fingers through it a few times!

And of course it wouldn't be a birthday without our traditional flourless chocolate birthday cake.

I hope you all had a splendid weekend, I highly recommend exploring new places as a weekend activity, it's heaps of fun!

P.s. I'm glad you all love leopard print as much as I do!
